Hot Tub Safety Tips

Anyone using a hot tub needs to keep a few safety precautions in mind. This means you or anyone else using the hot tub. The first and foremost of course, concerns children. At no point of time should a child be allowed in a hot tub unless there is a responsible adult around. This is very vital and never mind even if your child is a very good swimmer, on no occasion should this rule be forgotten. This is something that is very dangerous so please keep this firmly in mind.

One of the problems with hot tubs is the incidences of drowning. When you get into the hot tub, the main benefit is the fact that you relax. Now this unfortunately, could be a danger as well. You could get so relaxed that you could fall asleep and this could lead to death by drowning. So the time that you are in the hot tub should be monitored. Hot water can relax your senses to such an extent that you could feel lightheaded and confused and even dizzy at times so anyone who is new to the hot tub should be accompanied by someone. Only after you know how you can manage yourself should you venture into it alone.

There are a couple of other dangers too and these are entanglement of hair and sometimes body parts as well. When draining, what a hot tub does is to suck out the water and then circulate it back through a heating apparatus so the water comes back hot into the tub. Now, these drains can be quite powerful so there have been times when a part of the body has also been sucked in and the person then is held under water, unable to move. This is even worse when the drain becomes partially blocked because the suction then just gets stronger. So it would be safer to have a hot tub with two drains in which case when one gets a bit blocked, the other slackens the suction and then it is unlikely that it will be strong enough to entrap a part of the body.

When the hair gets entangled and sucked in, it can spell real danger and this is bad when the person has long hair which has not been tied back. Very often, before the person can untangle it, the head can get pulled under water and this could cause drowning. If one is very quick, the emergency switch can be turned off and this causes the suction to stop and the hair to come free.

Like most appliances, the hot tub has certain drawbacks as well. It is up to us to use it with caution so we get the best of its benefits and are not exposed to any of its dangers. One should also be clued in as to what to do if an emergency does occur.
