Hot Tub Maintenance

Hot Tub Maintenance

A hot tub to be effective and long lasting needs proper maintenance. When the hot tub is filled with water, if you can see your clear reflection, it is in excellent condition. Some basic maintenance work done regularly, can give you joyful experiences for a long time. They are not too difficult and are quite simple to follow.

The first step is to have a back up supply of all the material needed to keep the hot tub in good condition. There will be occasions when you may need to add some ingredient or ‘shock’ the water in the tub to enhance its properties, and if you do not have them in stock at home, you may have to run to the nearest store or miss out on a relaxing experience.

When you install a hot tub, you will get a starter kit containing chlorine and/or bromine in tablet or granule form, a pH balancer and an anti-foam agent. These ingredients will help you get the hot tub functional but it takes a lot more to keep the hot tub well maintained.

The term ‘shock treatment’ may sound hazardous when applied to a hot tub. There is however nothing to be unduly worried about, but a shock treatment is an essential part of maintaining a hot tub. Irrespective of how fastidious you are, there will be occasions when you will miss out on routine cleaning of the tub and this could result in unwelcome organic matter invading the water. When this happens, you will be amazed at what a difference a shock treatment will give to the water. Keeping these in stock and using them at need will clear up the unwelcome matter immediately. Keeping these at hand is worth your while, so that you do not have to delay a relaxing session just when you need it. Otherwise, you may be constrained to run to the store for the shock treatment products just when you need them.

To really have an enjoyable experience in the hot tub, the water must be crystal clear at the time of use. Sparkling agents and anti-scaling chemicals when added at the time of maintenance of the tub will ensure that you will always have crystal clear water. If this is not done regularly, you may end up with hard water calcium build up resulting in getting cloudy water though you may be using the cleanest possible source of water.

To always have access to crystal clear water, the filter cartridge will need to be regularly cleaned. Just by removing the cartridge and hosing it down with a garden hose will do. Doing so often, you will also be cutting down maintenance costs of running an effective hot tub.

Maintaining the hot tub will be ineffective, if the hot tub is not completely drained every three to four months.
