Buying A Hot Tub

Buying A Hot Tub

It’s a very confusing business – going out and buying a hot tub. So many questions come to mind. Like how on earth do you choose from the many options there are out there? How does one decide about the materials used, does one really need hydrotherapy jets, how difficult or easy are hot tubs to maintain, does color matter? Well, yes, there are many questions that will appear but rest assured, hot tubs are not as difficult as say, buying a car. Take a look at a few pointers that will make the whole job of buying a hot tub much easier.

The first thing to do is to decide the size of the hot tub before you go to buy it. This means you need to decide where to put it. Measure that space and then think of how many people you think will use it at one time. Just for one or a romantic twosome or many more like the whole family or a group of friends? This decision makes it that much easier and then you can go look at options only in the size you want.

Then of course, the price – and here you have to be very clear of the outside limit you are willing to spend. You could get one for $1000 or you could buy one for ten times that price – it all depends on you – on what you can afford and how much you are willing to put down. Make sure you have a cut-off figure and that the amount is something you can well afford. One rule of thumb would be to be able to buy it without the need for financing. If you need to do that, maybe it would be more prudent to buy something that is priced less. This is one time when you have to be practical and not let your fancies carry you away because you could just end up in a situation where you get it home then have it taken away because you can’t pay for it!

Then of course, which material would be best would be the question. Today the most popular ones are fiberglass reinforced plastic and wood. The wooden ones are generally hard wood like teak, cedar or redwood. These have an old world look to them so you might want something like this to go with the décor. The ones made of fiberglass reinforced plastic have less of a tendency to leak and weigh less. They could also have more comfortable seating.

Hot tubs today are well made and definitely need less maintenance than they needed a few decades ago. However, do remember that they do need some amount of maintenance. You will need to add shock treatments and chemicals at regular intervals as well as clean the filters.

Does that seem like too many decisions to take and too much to bother about? Well, it might seem like a huge task ahead but the fact of the matter is that the benefits that a hot tub can give you are so many that the time spent in buying one is well worth the effort. And you know what? Once that hot tub comes home, you’ll get so used to it, you just couldn’t imagine living without it, ever!
